What is the Buffalo CycleBoats?
Buffalo CycleBoats is Western New York’s first company specializing in pedal-powered CycleBoat tours. We are owned and operated by USCG Licenced Captains. CycleBoat tours are our specality and all we do! You can assure that you ( your group) will have a safe and enjoyable time on the water!
The Cycleboat is a 31-foot-long catamaran, which is propelled through the water by a large rear paddle wheel which is powered by the pedaling of our riders! We can accommodate up to 15 guests (10 at pedal stations surrounding a central mahogany bar and 5 others on comfortable bench seating) and embark on daily cruises on the waters of the Buffalo River through Downtown Buffalo’s Canalside area departing from Buffalo Riverworks.

Whether you’re purchasing individual tickets or reserving the entire vessel for your group, booking your cruise is as easy.
- Go to our booking page and select your date/time.
- Choose either a full boat rental or individual tickets and checkout with a credit card using our 2048-bit encrypted payment platform.
- Read and electronically sign your waiver.
Where do we board?
Buffalo CycleBoats is located right downtown at Buffalo Riverworks. 359 Ganson St, Buffalo NY 14203 (Click to view in Google Maps). We'll pick up you (and your group) at our dock right on the river side of the building. You will receive an email with your boarding information after booking.
Can we drink aboard the Buffalo CycleBoat?
We suggest that each guest bring 36oz of beer or 18oz of wine. So three 12oz beers or a 6-pack of beer to share between two guests, or a bottle of wine to share between two guests.
Please bring canned beer, as anything in a glass container will need to be poured into a plastic cup. We suggest visiting any Consumers Beverage locations for a wide variety of canned craft beer to enjoy on your cruise.
Do you provide food or beverage on the Buffalo CycleBoat?
BuffaloCycleBoat is strictly Bring Your Own "BYO" Food & Beverages (alocholic and non-alocholic beverages are allowed and must be only consumed on our vessel. A wide variety of catering packages are available at Buffalo RiverWorks.
Do I need to bring ice or a cooler?
Our boat has 2 large coolers built right into the bar that come fully stocked with ice for your cruise.
How long is the cruise?
Regular cruises run approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes from beginning to end, including a quick safety spiel before we embark.
Is it difficult to pedal?
Not at all. There are no hills to go up out on the water, and we can raise or lower the paddle wheel to reduce or increase resistance.
How many people can ride the CycleBoat?
Buffalo CycleBoats can safely accommodate up to 15 passengers per cruise, with a maximum weight capacity of 2,960 pounds. Seating includes 10 pedal stations surrounding the central bar and a comfortable bench for 5 non-peddlers to enjoy the ride.
What is the minimum number of rider needed to operate the boat?
As few as 6 riders can pedal the boat, but we typically won’t cruise with less than 8.
We will contact you if there are less than 8 seats booked for your time slot. If the cruise is cancelled due to this minimum, and we are unable to reschedule your reservation, we will refund your payment.
Are kids allowed to ride?
Regular Buffalo CycleBoat cruises are 21 and over. Children age 13 and older are permitted to ride on specialty family-friendly cruises only, and are required to wear life jackets. All minors must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 25 with no alcohol present. Please contact us for our family themed tours.
Do you provide the driver?
We sure do. All Buffalo CycleBoat captains are US Coast Guard certified for small passenger vessel operation.
Is there a bathroom on board?
The Buffalo CycleBoat does not have a bathroom on board, but we stop halfway through your cruise for a bathroom break. Bathrooms are located our dock to use before and after your cruise as well.
Does Buffalo CycleBoats do private parties?
Absolutely! We take pride in tailoring every private event! Whether you’re bringing your birthday/bachelor/bachelorette party or looking for a unique brand of corporate team building, be sure to let us know. Full boat rentals are available at a discount to cater your party’s specific needs. Please contact us for any questions or to set up a private event.
What if it is raining or windy the day of my cruise?
Buffalo CycleBoats will sail rain or shine, thanks to a collapsible canopy that covers the entire deck.
In the case of extreme weather (if thunder, lightning or heavy winds are present) the captain reserves the right to cancel the tour and will provide each passenger with a rain check for a future cruise at time of departure.
What is your cancelation policy?
Our standard cancellation policy is as follows:
- Cancellations made more than 10 days in advance of a scheduled cruise will receive a full refund.
- Cancellations made more than 3 days in advance, but less than 10 days, will receive a rain check for a future cruise.
- No shows or cancellations made less than 3 days (72 hours) prior to a scheduled cruise will not be entitled to a refund.
- In the event that extreme weather causes the captain to cancel a tour, all passengers will be provided with a rain check.
Can I leave a tip for the crew?
If you had a great experience and our crew added to your enjoyment, please feel free to show your appreciation with a tip.
Good Neighbor Policy
We are guests Buffalo RiverWorks so please no tailgating or open containers on their premises. BYOB drinks can only be consumed on our boat after leaving the dock. If you feel the need to bring a cooler please do not bring them inside of the RiverWorks facility.
