History Tours on the Water

Have you ever had a history tour on the water? Now you can, with Buffalo Cycleboats! On your cycleboat tour, you can learn fun facts about your favorite city as you pedal your way down the Buffalo River. Catch beautiful views of Downtown Buffalo as you join it with your group of up to 32 friends.

Our 120 minute tour will take you on the once Erie Canal Harbor that was originally built in 1825 as the western terminus of the Erie Canal. Now known as the Buffalo River, this was once known as America’s “Gateway to the West”. Buffalo’s Port known as the Erie Canal Harbor and its “Central Wharf” area were busy with rail and vessel traffic with goods passing from the Atlantic seaboard across the Great Lakes.

Did you know that Buffalo was once a major port, but for which industry? And what was it that turned this little town into a thriving city? Why did the city’s name change, and why is it named Buffalo?

You’ll learn the answers to these questions and more on your unique history tour! For history buffs and for those curious to know trivia facts about Buffalo – so you can be the champion at the next bar trivia night, we will love to have you aboard!

Each cycleboat tour will be packed with sights and information as we cruise along the Buffalo River. Sights include Erie Basin Marina, Buffalo Main Lighthouse, United States Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, General Mills, Canalside Buffalo, KeyBank Center, Edward M. Cotter Fireboat, Seneca Niagara Casino, Riverfest Park, Buffalo Riverworks, Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association, Lafarge Concrete Buffalo, Silo City Grain Elevators and finishing up at the SS Columbia.
